I take it the side that the cord comes in on with the sticker on that side is the side to be facing away your body or is the mat bi-directional?

The cord should be on the underside of the mat. The mat changes polarity, so it does not matter whether the mat is one way or the other, but the cord clamp is more comfortable if the cord is under the mat.
